Our new wing development celebrated a significant milestone today with the completion of its roof!
Chairman Sir Mark Allen CMG and CEO Caroline Fox performed a ‘topping out’ ceremony to mark the laying of the final external part of the main structure of the building.
The £35m project will create six hi-tech theatres, a Day Case Suite and will be the most modern in the UK.
There will also be an Admissions Lounge, a new Imaging Department and Consultant Rooms. Our Urgent Care Clinic will also double in size as part of the 45,000 sq ft development.
Sir Mark Allen CMG said, “Extending the hospital is an important project that will give us the privilege to care for even more people in the very best healthcare environment.”
Mrs Fox added, “We are proud of everything we have achieved in our 162 years and this development demonstrates how we continue to drive innovation to provide outstanding care and an exceptional patient experience.”
The hospital provides surgery, medical care, outpatient and diagnostic services for children, young people, and adults. The new building, which will fully open by Summer 2022, will extend the care that the hospital can offer and is part of a redevelopment across the hospital. It follows a recent £3.5 million ward refurbishment.
Our hospital, based in St John’s Wood is an independent charitable hospital. Every visit helps to support our onsite St John’s Hospice which provides palliative care, free of charge, to over 4,500 people and their families every year.
