London Imaging is one of the UK’s best equipped modern imaging departments, offering the latest in MRI scanning technology.
We are pleased to offer the most modern prostate imaging using MRI. This utilises our 3 Tesla (3T) MRI scanner which has twice the strength of the more common 1.5T scanners. This results in clearer pictures making smaller abnormalities visible and improving accuracy. The ‘Multiparametric’ portion of the scan involves adding two relatively new techniques to the well established standard anatomical sequences. This is diffusion imaging and dynamic contrast imaging using a small injection of MRI contrast dye. These techniques have been shown to improve accuracy in assessment of small areas of prostate tumour and to assess for any potential spread. This enables superior and more personalised care.
Traditionally prostate MRI was used after a diagnosis of prostate cancer had been made by a biopsy. Using multiparametric 3T MRI, it is possible to avoid biopsy in some cases. This technique is also useful for surgical planning, monitoring of disease and assessment of any potential recurrence after treatment. Our radiologists are specifically trained in this new technique and work in close collaboration with our consultant urologists. If the scan reveals an abnormality we also offer highly skilled image guided targeted prostate biopsy.
