Competition & Markets Authority (CMA)
The Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014 (the “CMA Order”) requires private hospital operators to disclose on their websites certain information relating to the way the private hospitals interact with referring clinicians.
This webpage is St John and St Elizabeth Hospital’s declaration of that information.
Compliance with CMA Order 2014
- Use of consulting rooms – £22 per hour (full usage)
- Office space rental – £600 per square metre per annum
- Medical secretarial services – £24 per hour plus VAT
- PA/Administrative services – £18 per hour plus VAT
- General services to ensure clinical safety (e.g., in-house training, chaperones)
- Operational services such as patient bookings/admissions (including online booking and payment for consultations), administrative services and billing, insurance/indemnity cover in respect of NHS patients, and electronic medical records (PIMS) system
- General marketing support including production of consultant directories, promotional activities, web profiles and promotional support for events
- Basic workplace amenities such as teas/coffees/refreshments, car parking (which is offered on a first come first served basis), stationery

Private hospital operators are required to disclose details of referring clinicians practising at their facilities who have a share or financial interest in those facilities, or any equipment used there. The shares and/financial interests of referring clinicians at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital are set out below:
- Mr David Greenstein owns 100% of the scelotherapy and duplex ultrasound equipment used by him at HJE and HJE pays him £309 and £401.70 respectively per patient for the use of this equipment.
- Dr Jafar Jafari owns 100% of the impedance testing equipment used by him at HJE.
- Mr Julian Livingston owns 100% of the gait analysis equipment used by him at HJE.
- Mr James Youngman owns 100% of the dolorclast shockwave therapy machine used by him at HJE.
Private hospital operators are required to disclose details of any part-time position in their private hospitals held by a referring clinician in addition to exercising practising privileges at that hospital.
