Expertise: General and laboratory haematology. Thrombophilia, thrombosis (DVT, pulmonary embolism, cancer-associated thrombosis), anticoagulation, VTE prevention for surgical, orthopaedic & gynaecological patients. Thrombocytopenia. Obstetric haematology. Assessment of bleeding tendency including perioperatively.

Biography

Consultant Haematologist with over 25 years’ Consultant experience including leadership roles in pathology & clinical haematology. Clinical Director for Clinical Haematology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and London North West University Hospitals (LNWUH). Previously Chief of Haematology and Blood Transfusion Services for North West London Pathology (NWLP). Previous Imperial Haematology Programme unit training as lead and chair of local faculty group.

Special interests in haemostats and thrombosis, obstetric haematology, VTE prevention in orthopaedic surgical patients. Managing anticoagulation bridging perioperatively. Managing patients with complex coagulopathies due to liver disease, cancer, sepsis and COVID-19. Management of major bleeding including obstetrics. Wide range of experience in general and diagnostic haematology. Dr Shlebak is also the RCpath examiner for haematology FRCPath. He is active in translational research in VTE prevention and managing COVID coagulopathies.
