Mr Zaid Shalchi is a Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He specialises particularly in cataract surgery, medical retina and uveitis. He is the macular degeneration lead at Windsor.
Mr Shalchi graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2007 and trained in Ophthalmology at St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospitals before undertaking fellowship training in medical retina, uveitis and complex cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He is member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth).
Mr Shalchi is committed to his academic work. He has performed research across the world which has been published in acclaimed peer-reviewed journals. He is a keen teacher and whilst training registrars in clinic and theatre, also trains ophthalmologists at an international level at the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) as well as the European Society for Retina Specialists (Euretina).
Mr Shalchi is committed to charitable work. He has taught in Tanzania as part of the VISION2020 Links Programme and has run the London and Paris marathons for eye charities. He helped raise over £1m for the Lady Fatemah Trust, a charity that runs an eye clinic in Karbala, Iraq.
