Dr Elhousseini is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Both Surgical and Medical Retina conditions. After completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2006, he went on to gain his Master’s degree in ophthalmology before deciding to move to the UK in 2013. Undergoing further specialist training, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Since moving to the UK, Dr Elhousseini has gained a strong background working for the NHS. Starting out as an Honorary Fellow of Ophthalmology at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, he then took on the post of Specialty Doctor of Ophthalmology at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust before becoming a Consultant Ophthalmologist in 2020.
Over the years, Dr Elhousseini has developed a keen interest in the treatment of Diabetic Eye disease and currently the Clinical Lead for North Central London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. Dr Elhousseini believes in a complete solution to maximize visual outcomes and has vast experience in Refractive Cataract surgery and Laser Eye Surgery.

He has trained and supervised many trainees and fellows performing complex Retina and cataract surgery.
He has also been active as the Deputy Academic Lead and an examiner for MBBS Medical students at the University College London (UCL), as well as acting as examiner for the mock exams of the London Eye Course.

He is currently the lead for Clinical Pathway group of Retina Service at the Royal Free Hospital London and Digital Lead for Ophthalmology
Dr Elhousseini has co-authored various publications on ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgery, and has presented his work to both international and national audiences. In order to stay abreast of developments in the industry, he attends regular international conferences and meetings, including annual congresses of EURETINA and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
