This page offers an in-depth look at the salpingectomy procedure, including what to expect before, during, and after surgery, as well as how we’re committed to your care and recovery.

Before Surgery

Your pathway to a Salpingectomy begins with a comprehensive consultation with one of our esteemed gynaecologists. During this initial meeting, we delve into your medical history, discuss the indications for the surgery, and explore the most suitable surgical options for your condition. Our approach is holistic and patient-centred, ensuring that you are fully informed and comfortable with the proposed treatment plan.

Preparing for your Salpingectomy involves adhering to specific instructions from your gynaecologist. These may include pausing certain medications, undergoing pre-operative assessments, and following dietary guidelines. Our dedicated team will guide you through every step, ensuring a smooth and prepared transition into surgery.

During Surgery

Undergoing a Salpingectomy at St John & Elizabeth Hospital is a process marked by comfort, care, and the highest standards of medical excellence. Our facilities are equipped with the latest in medical technology, and our surgical team is committed to providing a reassuring and serene experience.

Arrival and Preparation: Upon your arrival, our compassionate staff will welcome you and assist with the final preparations for your surgery. This includes a review of your medical history and a discussion of the surgery steps to ensure you are fully prepared for the procedure.

Anaesthesia: Salpingectomy typically requires general anaesthesia, ensuring that you are comfortable and pain-free throughout the surgery. Our expert anaesthetists will administer the anaesthesia, prioritising your safety and comfort at every stage.

The Surgical Procedure: The specifics of the Salpingectomy will depend on your individual case and the surgeon’s technique. The surgery might involve the removal of one or both fallopian tubes, through either an open or laparoscopic approach. Our surgeons use precise, minimally invasive techniques wherever possible, focusing on your swift recovery and optimal health outcomes.

Immediate Post-Operative Care: Directly after the procedure, you’ll receive attentive care to ensure your comfort and begin the healing process. This includes monitoring your vital signs, managing pain, and providing support as you awaken from anaesthesia.

After Surgery

Recovery and post-operative care following a Salpingectomy at St John & Elizabeth Hospital are tailored to promote comfort, healing, and the best possible outcomes. Here’s what you can anticipate:

Immediate Post-Procedure Care: Immediately after your surgery, our team will provide comprehensive aftercare instructions specific to your procedure. This may cover wound care, signs to watch for in case of complications, and any prescriptions for medications.

Recovery at Home: The recovery period can vary based on the extent of the surgery and the individual. Most patients can resume normal, non-strenuous activities within a few days, though full recovery may take several weeks. We advise patients to follow specific guidance on physical activities, lifting, and self-care during this time.

Follow-Up Visits: A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to monitor your healing process and to discuss any findings from the surgery. This visit is crucial for ensuring that your recovery is on track and addressing any concerns you may have.

How to pay for your treatment

If you’re… paying for yourself

Did you know you don’t need private medical insurance to come to St John & St Elizabeth Hospital? As a self-pay patient, you can access safe, outstanding quality health care at times to suit you.

For scans and tests, as well as to see most consultants, you’ll still need to be referred by a medical professional like your GP, but as a self-pay patient, the process is more straightforward. You won’t need authorisation from an insurance provider, and you’ll have greater choice of consultant and appointment times.

If you’re… insured

St John & St Elizabeth Hospital is approved by all major medical insurance companies. If you have a personal private health insurance policy, or your company provide it for you, you can use it to pay for your care from your initial consultation through to treatment, surgery and aftercare such as physiotherapy. Not all private health insurance plans cover the same things. It’s very important to check exactly what you are covered for with your insurance provider.
