What have we been doing?

Founded in 1856, St John & St Elizabeth Hospital is one of the UK’s largest independent charitable hospitals.

Since 2018, we’ve been building our new, three floor, £35 million wing, the single largest investment we’ve ever made into the hospital. It will allow us to keep providing excellent care and impeccable standards to our local community.

Our aim is the same now as it was over 165 years ago — to provide the highest quality healthcare for all those who seek it.

Into our next era

As we continue to develop the hospital, our new wing will bring:

  • Six new state-of-the-art theatres over two floors; 3 lit with natural light
  • 9 ensuite rooms for day visitors
  • A new welcome area
  • Critical care unit upgrade
  • A renovated St Joseph’s Ward on level two
  • A refreshed department for scans and tests, which features two upgraded MRI scanners and the latest X-ray technology for a wider range of exams
  • Improved CT Scanner and ultrasound with private changing rooms
  • New orthopaedic facilities with a new waiting room and consulting area
  • A brand new endoscopy unit
  • An expanded Urgent Care Clinic for the community
  • AG compliant environment
  • A new hospital entrance, waiting lounge and café
