Cervical Cancer screening at London Wellwoman Clinic
All this week is Cervical Cancer Prevention week and statistics reveal that cervical screening rates are at their lowest for two decades.
Figures show that London has some of the lowest rates of women screened for cervical cancer in the UK, with some boroughs showing just over half of eligible women under 50 undergoing a cervical screening test within the past three and a half years. In 75% of all diagnosed cases, cervical cancer could have been prevented by undergoing a simple cervical screening test.
For women under 35, cervical cancer rates have continued to soar, whilst the number having smear tests has fallen to an all-time low. Symptoms are not always obvious and there may not be any noticeable symptoms until the cancer has reached an advanced stage. Therefore it’s extremely important to attend all cervical screening appointments.
