Dr Alexandrou has held NHS appointments as a Consultant Paediatrician since 2005. He is currently appointed Consultant Paediatrician and the Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children at the Children’s Centre, Moorfields NHS Trust, since January 2015. Prior to that he was a Consultant Paediatric specialist at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
He has further advanced his expertise with a Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Vaccinations, Oxford University (2017). Dr Alexandrou qualified in Medicine in Athens, Greece, and he completed his specialist training in General Paediatrics at St George’s Hospital in London, with further training in Paediatric Intensive Care at the Bristol Children’s Hospital and Neonatal Medicine at the John Radcliffe University Hospital in Oxford, and the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
He worked as a Consultant Neonatologist in major level-3 neonatal centres in the UK, including the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Imperial College London. He is an Instructor and Medical Director for the Neonatal Life Support (NLS) course of the Resuscitation Council UK, lecturing and also directing this course in the care of the newborn at a national level.
Dr Alexandrou is married, and his time outside work is spent rewardingly as a parent of two school-age children, from bed-time story reading to playing tennis in the park. He enjoys quality cinema and he is a member of the British Film Institute. He has a special interest in diplomatic history and he is a keen runner.
