Dr Leah Austin graduated from Newcastle University upon Tyne in 2007 and completed her General Practitioner training in the Northern Deanery. She completed posts in general medicine, emergency medicine, microbiology, palliative care, and obstetrics and gynaecology. Since working as a General Practitioner she has gained experience working in the North East, Yorkshire and London.
In addition to her work in the UK she has also worked in Beijing, China as a family doctor for International SOS which involved day to day General Practice and Acute Care in the Emergency Room. She enjoyed the diversity of the expatriate patients and working as a team with other General practitioners and specialists from all over the world.
Her interest in sports activities and reaching optimum health has led her to study the nutritional diploma at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. She qualified as a nutritional therapist in September 2017. Her particular interests is to take a holistic approach in supporting the body medically and nutritionally to bring the body back to homeostasis.
She also has a keen interest in nutrigenomics (nutrition and genetics) and functional medicine to address the underlying cause of disease using a systems-oriented approach engaging with the patient in a therapeutic partnership.
Having moved to London in 2014, Dr Leah Austin joined private general practice in September 2016 working at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth and also continues to provide out of hours care for the NHS.
She is well travelled having lived in Malaysia for few years growing up and spending time in the French Alps. She is also a sports enthusiast previously running marathons and completing long distance road cycling events for charity. It comes to no surprise given her nutrition interests that she likes to spend time with friends and family exploring delicious eatery’s around London.
