Dr. Sageet Amlani is an accomplished medical professional specialising in stroke medicine and geriatrics. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at St. John’s College, Oxford, in 1997, and then pursued training in Oxford and London, solidifying his expertise in medicine and eventually settling in London.
Inspired by his mother’s health challenges, particularly a significant stroke, Dr. Amlani focused his career on stroke medicine to make meaningful contributions to patient care. After completing specialty training in geriatrics and subspecialisation in stroke at Imperial College London, he earned his consultant qualifications in general medicine, geriatrics, and stroke medicine in 2014.
Dr. Amlani took his first consultant post as a stroke physician in Surrey in 2014, relocating to London in 2016 due to family reasons. During this time, he became involved with St John’s Hospice, raising substantial funds through marathon running and other initiatives. St John’s Hospice was in fact what drew him to St John & St Elizabeth Hospital where hospital profits fund the on-site hospice, and he’s been working here consistently since 2020.
From 2016 to 2020, Dr. Amlani played a pivotal role in establishing the mechanical thrombectomy service at the Royal London Hospital, contributing significantly to the hospital’s reputation as a leading centre for thrombectomies in the UK.
Currently, Dr. Amlani holds a full-time position at Barts NHS Trust and specialises in hyperacute stroke medicine at the Royal London Hospital. He also runs a stroke rehabilitation and stroke clinic (including TIA clinic) at Newham Hospital and is the National Audit Lead for Newham Hospital in Stroke Medicine, having previously performed the role for the Royal London Hospital.
Dr Amlani is the Stroke Lead at St John & St Elizabeth Hospital.
Specialty interests: stroke rehabilitation, acute TIA clinics, stroke follow up clinics, general geriatrics.
