Dr Viegas qualified from University College London medical school with honours in 2001. He undertook research in myasthenia gravis at the University of Oxford before he completed his neurology training in Southampton, Imperial and the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. He was appointed as a Consultant Neurologist at Imperial & Hillingdon in 2014 and leads the myasthenia gravis and muscle service at Imperial. He sees patients with muscle disorders, myasthenia gravis, motor neurone disease and peripheral neuropathy. To achieve an accurate diagnosis he works collaboratively with neurophysiologists, radiologists and neuropathologists discussing cases in a multidisciplinary manner. Treatment is individualised and he works closely with other medical specialists and allied healthcare professionals to provide best possible care for his patients. He is a member of regional immunotherapy panels and will always advocate for his patients. He has written book chapters, review articles and published original research in his field. He remains actively involved in clinical research and medical education. He is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. He also continues to support the Myaware charity to help myasthenia gravis patients around the UK. Away from his sub-speciality he is an experienced general neurologist with over 10 years consultant expertise in the assessment and management of patients with headache, epilepsy, CNS inflammatory disorders, movement disorders and a range of other neurological conditions.
