Mr Andrew Ballaro has been a full time London NHS and private Consultant Urological Surgeon for 15 years, and is highly experienced in the management of all general urological problems. He has specialist interests in:
Mr Ballaro offers a choice of procedures for benign prostatic enlargement and urinary retention, including Holmium Laser Prostatectomy (HoLEP) and REZUM steam ablation therapy, along with the standard Transurethral prostate resection (TURP).
He tailors treatment to each patient’s requirements, and is an expert at laser surgery for very large prostates, with 98% of patients with catheters already passing urine well the day after surgery. He also runs a high-volume laser stone practice and consistently publishes some of the best surgical outcome data for complex stone removal in the UK.
Mr Ballaro also provides the Transperineal MRI fusion prostate biopsy technique for the most precise and minimally invasive diagnosis of prostate cancer, available for patients with raised PSA, as well as impartial advice and access to an expert tertiary referral base for prostate cancer treatment. He is also highly experienced in the management of prostatitis and pelvic pain syndromes and all general urological surgery.
Mr Ballaro trained in London centres of excellence and completed his research Doctorate at The Institute of Urology at UCL. He has published widely in the fields of minimally invasive surgery and bladder physiology, and is co-author of the latest edition of ‘Lecture Notes in Urology’ – the standard medical student textbook. He enjoys teaching London deanery trainee urologists at all levels.
