Biography

Mr Laurence Whitefield is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon working in the NHS and in Private Practice. His NHS appointment has been with South London Healthcare Trust since 1999. He works in Private Practice at St John and St Elizabeth Hospital.

His interest in cataract surgery started from early in his training and was involved with modern phacoemulsification techniques when first introduced into the UK in the early 90s. He maintains an interest in teaching surgeons in training and runs both basic and advanced cataract surgery courses every year. He sits on Alcon’s Refractive Cataract Surgery Committee.

Mr Laurence Whitefield also has an interest in retinal disease and has a large retinal practice looking after patients with age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other retinal diseases.
