Important notice: Meningitis B Vaccines
Unfortunately, we do not have any Meningitis B vaccines in stock at this time.
The UK Health Protection Agency is prioritising supply for those directly affected by the current outbreak. We hope availability to the private sector will resume in due course.
We recognise that the recent outbreak of Meningitis B in Kent is distressing. As parents, it is natural to feel concerned about the risks to your child, particularly alongside other outbreaks such as measles. At St John & St Elizabeth Hospital, we strongly encourage you to get your children vaccinated against all preventable illness.
This includes:
- Routine UK childhood immunisation schedule,
- Travel vaccinations for any trips you may be taking.
- Vaccines such as MMR and Meningitis A, C, W and Y.
- Meningitis B once it is in stock and becomes available.
In 2015, the Meningitis B vaccine was introduced into the national immunisation schedule for infants. In 2015 the UK schedule then introduced Meningococcal Group B vaccine to all babies in the first year of life. They later introduced the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine to be given to all teenagers in school year 9. This decision was taken by the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) at that time because the prevalence of Meningococcal Group B illness was usually more prevalent in younger children and the prevalence of Meningococcal group W was often in teenagers. This, as all things, has evolved globally.
If you would like to be notified when the Meningitis B vaccine becomes available, please email paediatrics@hje.org.uk with the subject line Men B. We will contact you once appointments can be offered.
You can also book a consultation for advice, health checks or alternative vaccinations by email or by calling 0207 078 3831.
