Weight Loss Surgery

Have you tried everything to lose weight, but nothing you do seems to shift the weight or keep it off?

If you have a BMI above 40, or between 35-40 and an obesity-related condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure amongst others, but dieting and exercise just aren’t working, weight-loss surgery might be for you.

You will receive a detailed assessment by a highly experienced Consultant Surgeon with over 30-years experience in the NHS and 20-years in the private sector and with an outstanding outcome and safety record. Your care and recovery will be supported by a highly experience team that is trained in all weight and reflux-related conditions.

We offer several types of weight-loss surgery. Most of these are performed under general anaesthetic using keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery. Keyhole surgery allows the inside of your tummy to be accessed without needing to make large cuts in your skin. Small cuts will be made in your tummy and a small tube with a camera will be inserted which relays images of your stomach to a monitor.

  • The benefits of this type of surgery are:
  • A shorter hospital stay and faster recovery time
  • Less pain and bleeding after the operation
  • Less scarring

The types of surgery we offer are:

Gastric bypass

This is where surgical staples are used to create a small pouch at the top of your stomach. The pouch is then connected to your small intestine, missing out (bypassing) the rest of the stomach. This means it takes less food to make you feel full, and you’ll absorb fewer calories from the food you eat.

Gastric band

This is where a band is placed around your stomach, so you don’t need to eat as much to feel full.

Sleeve gastrectomy

This is where part of the stomach is removed so it’s smaller than before. This means you won’t be able to eat as much as you could before surgery, and you’ll feel fuller faster.

Gastric balloon

This is where a soft balloon filled with salt water is placed in your stomach using a thin tube (endoscope). This means you won’t be able to eat as much before you feel full. This is a temporary measure and the balloon will be taken out after 1 year.

All treatments required for reflux disease, including the LINX implant

This is also an option if you’re suffering from reflux after a sleeve gastrectomy. LINX is a magnetic implant that’s used to treat the symptoms of reflux. It’s made from magnetic beads connected by wires and is placed around the bottom of your oesophagus. It works by holding the valve at the bottom of your oesophagus shut to prevent your stomach contents from coming up, but the magnetic beads will open so that you can swallow. The operation will generally take less than an hour and has a very high success rate.

We also have a wide and extensive experience of:

  • Gastric band removal
  • Revision surgery
  • Conversion of a sleeve to a bypass
  • A bypass or a sleeve after a gastric band has been removed

We have strict selection criteria, so will only operate if the operation will make a difference to you.

If we do go ahead with surgery, you will benefit from a state-of-the-art operating environment and a fully trained team. Every patient's treatment is individually tailored to obtain the best result with the lowest risk. All enquiries will be treated in strictest confidence!

Paying for yourself?

If you are paying for your own treatment, you don’t need a referral from your GP for a consultation. Simply refer yourself* and book an appointment by calling our team on 02074328260, 07809742339 or email us at [email protected].

Using health insurance?

If you have health insurance (e.g. Bupa, Axa, Aviva), you need to contact your insurer to get authorisation before any treatment, and in most cases, you will also need to get a referral letter from your GP. If you’re not registered with a GP, we have an in-house private GP practice you can use.

*Please note – for tests and scans such as X-rays, MRIs and blood tests, a referral will be needed. However, we may be able to arrange this for you through our on-site private GP.
