Mr Matteo Massanova is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with five years of consultant experience, specialising in pelvic surgery and urological cancers, particularly prostate and bladder cancer. He is an expert in robotic surgery, having performed more than 500 robotic operations as primary surgeon.
Mr Massanova has particular expertise in complex bladder cancer surgery and urinary reconstruction. He is currently the only surgeon in his area offering robotic intracorporeal orthotopic neobladder reconstruction and robotic continent cutaneous urinary diversion following bladder removal. His experience includes more than 400 robot-assisted radical prostatectomies and 150 radical cystectomies with urinary diversion, performed using both robotic and open approaches.
Alongside his cancer practice, Mr Massanova treats a broad range of urological conditions. He has a specialist interest in complex bladder disorders, including interstitial cystitis and ketamine-induced cystitis, and also manages kidney stones, benign prostate enlargement, phimosis, hydrocele, varicocele and other general urological conditions. He has performed more than 750 general urological procedures.
Mr Massanova is an official proctor for Intuitive Surgical, manufacturer of the da Vinci robotic surgical platform. In this role, he has trained and supported more than 20 surgeons performing robotic prostate and bladder surgery across the UK and Europe.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Massanova is an Honorary Lecturer in Urology at the University of Naples Federico II. He remains actively involved in research and has authored several peer-reviewed publications, with a particular focus on robotic surgery and prostate and bladder cancer.

My approach is centred around treating every patient as an individual. I believe that good medical care starts with listening carefully, understanding a patient’s concerns and priorities, and making sure they fully understand their condition and the treatment options available to them.
I place particular importance on clear and honest communication. I explain diagnoses, investigations and treatments in straightforward language, including the expected benefits, potential risks and available alternatives. Wherever possible, I involve patients closely in decision-making rather than simply telling them what treatment they should have.
When surgery is required, my aim is to provide the most effective treatment while minimising its impact on quality of life. This is particularly important in prostate and bladder cancer surgery, where cancer control must be balanced with functional outcomes and the individual patient’s priorities.
Ultimately, I want my patients to feel informed, supported and confident that we have made the right decision together, whether that means surgery, another form of treatment, or sometimes simply careful observation.
